If the United States continues supporting Kurdish militants in northern Syria, Turkey will deliver the country a serious blow, far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli said.

“America cannot forget what it went through in Vietnam,” Bahçeli said. “A country of 20 million gave a country of 200 million a hard time. Turkey will do five times as much.”

Turkey held an important round of defence procurement after launching its operation in Afrin, Burak Bekdil wrote for Defense News.

“Turkey’s top defense procurement panel on Jan. 31 discussed and reviewed a total of 55 programs totaling $9.4 billion,” he wrote.

10.08 Number of killed militants rises to 1,439 - Turkish Armed Forces

The number of Kurdish and Islamic State (ISIS) militants killed so far in the Afrin operation has risen to 1,439, the Turkish Armed Forces said in a statement.

10.02 Idlib could become humanitarian disaster – NGO

Turkey and Russia should dissuade Syrian President Bashar Assad from launching an all-out assault on Idlib province in northwestern Syria in order to prevent a potential disaster, International Crisis Group said.

“Idlib, a province in north-western Syria, together with slices of territory in adjacent provinces, is the country’s largest remaining rebel stronghold. It is also a humanitarian catastrophe waiting to happen, if the Syrian regime and its allies launch an all-out assault to retake it,” the non-governmental organisation wrote.

08.43 YPG would welcome Syrian army help in Afrin - commander

A majority-Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) commander has confirmed that the group is willing to accept help from Bashar Assad's forces in pushing Turkey out of the YPG-controlled region of Afrin in Syria.

"We don't have a problem with the entry of the Syrian army to defend Afrin and its border in the face of the Turkish occupation," Sipan Hamo said.


08.18 U.S. stalling in fight against ISIS - Turkish FM

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told reporters in Istanbul that U.S. forces were leaving "pockets" of Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Syria to justify continued cooperation with the Kurdish militia.

"Our relations (with the United States) are at a very critical stage," Cavusoglu said ahead of a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson later this week. "Either we will improve ties or these ties will totally break down."
