Russia gravely concerned over Turkey’s Afrin offensive

Turkey’s military offensive against the Kurdish-held northern Syrian enclave of Afrin is a cause for great concern to Russia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

Russia is the major power in Syria and has allowed Turkish planes to launch air strikes on Afrin.

"We are continuing to follow the course of events in northern Syria, and it causes us serious concern," the Russian Interfax news agency quoted Zakharova as telling a news conference.

"Based on incoming reports, several hundred people, including civilians, have already been killed in the 10 days since hostilities began," she said.
