Ahmet Altan’s prison memoir becomes bestseller on German Amazon

The latest book by prominent Turkish novelist Ahmet Altan, who is serving a life sentence on charges of attempting to overthrow the government, has become a top-seller on German Amazon three days after its publication.

‘’I Will Never See the World Again,’’ (Ich werde die Welt nie wiedersehen) published by Granta Books on Sept. 26,  is comprised of Altan’s memoirs written from the jail in which he is serving a life sentence with no parole for “using force and violence” to overthrow the government and knowing in advance about the coup attempt in 2016.

Altan, the founder and editor-in-chief of now defunct Taraf daily, in 2009, was awarded the prestigious Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media by the Media Foundation of the Sparkasse Leipzig. In 2011, the jailed author received the International Hrant Dink Award, an award presented since 2009 in the name of the assassinated Armenian journalist and author Hrant Dink.

There are currently 175 journalists in jail in Turkey, according to Expression Interrupted web-site run by the Turkish Platform for Independent Journalism.
