Arab League blasts Turkey's cross-border operations into Iraq

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said on Thursday that Turkey's cross-border operations into northern Iraq was an infringement of Arab national security, Xinhua reported.

Aboul-Gheit held a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on the recent developments in the region and the Turkish military intervention on Iraqi territory. Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have been engaged in a decades-long war which has caused more than 40,000 deaths and Ankara regularly targets PKK in operations on home soil and in northern Iraq, where the armed group’s headquarters is located.

The pan-Arab body chief voiced full solidarity with the Iraqi people for achieving their aspired stability soon and called for the necessity of an immediate cessation of any Turkish military operations in Iraq, Xinhua said.

On Tuesday, a Turkish drone attack killed two Iraqi officers and one soldier in Iraq's northern semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan.
