Three arrested on child sexual abuse charges in Istanbul Quran school
An Istanbul prosecutor’s office has arrested three men accused of sexually abusing at least six children at a Quranic studies boarding school in the city's Ümraniye district.
The arrest of the school’s staff members follows an investigation launched by the Istanbul Anadolu Chief Prosecutor's Office after the children filed a complaint, Cumhuriyet newspaper reported on Sunday.
While six children filed the complaint, reports indicate there are over 20 victims in total at the Fıkıh-Der Association, which runs an unlicensed boarding programme, it said.
Statements by the alleged victims include detailed accounts of repeated rape, sexual misconduct and unlawful restraint, Cumhuriyet said.
The prosecutors have asked for up to 50 year prison sentences for the three suspects.
