Turkey calls for justice for arson attack on Turkish mosque in United States

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu called an arson attack on a Turkish mosque in the U.S. state of Connecticut at the weekend an example of what he said was rising Islamophobia in the world and called for the perpetrators to be swiftly brought to justice.

“Our only consolation is that there was no loss of life,” Çavuşoğlu said in a tweet. “We should work together against Islamophobia and racism.”

A fire broke out on Sunday at a Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) mosque, which is still under construction in the city New Haven.

A criminal investigation has been started into the fire, which officials believe was deliberately set, involving local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
