No political motives behind attack on Belarusian diplomat, says Belarusian foreign minister

The Belarusian foreign minister said on Thursday the shooting which wounded one of the country's embassy employees in Ankara was not politically motivated, news site TIMETURK reported.

The Ankara Belarusian Embassy’s counsellor for administrative issues, Alexander Poganshev, was fired at several times by his neighbour, a retired Turkish soldier.

The former soldier committed suicide after the attack, according to Ankara governor Vasip Şahin.

"The issue does not have a political background. The incident occurred after a fight," Belarusian foreign minister Vladimir Makey said.

Poganshev was immediately taken to undergo surgery in intensive care. Makey said the operation had been successful and thanked Turkish officials for their immediate help.
