Turkish PM saves suicidal man, takes him to wedding
The Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım on Saturday talked a man out of jumping from an İstanbul bridge and convinced the man to join him in attending a minister’s daughter’s wedding, independent news site Diken reported.
A man, identified by the initials T.T., had climbed the railings of the Bosphorus Bridge, known officially as the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, in the late afternoon as the Turkish prime minister’s convoy passed by, Diken said.
Yıldırım stopped his convoy and approached the man, talking him out of jumping and bringing him down from the railings with the help of security.
The man who had sustained an injury to his chest received medical attention from the prime ministry’s physicians, the site reported.
The Prime Minister then convinced T.T. to join him in his car as he headed to the wedding of Minister of Culture and Tourism Numan Kurtulmuş’s daughter.
Yıldırım is serving his last days at the post as Turkey shifts to a presidential system of government following last month’s elections.
