After graduating from Üsküdar American College in Istanbul and studying Political Science in Hunter College in New York, Binnaz Toprak wrote her dissertation at the City University of New York. After returning Turkey, she started working at the Boğaziçi University Political Science and International Relations, later becoming associate and then full professor. She was appointed as the department chair, to the faculty board and the university senate. She also worked as a guest lecturer at Koç and Minnesota universities, and had a tenure in Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. During her academic career, she published numerous peer-reviewed articles and wrote five books. Other than her academic work, she wrote a column in Radikal newspaper, and served as an MP from Republican People's Party between 2011-2015.
