Black Friday looks like anti-Muslim PR stunt - Erdoğan advisor
Hamza Yerlikaya, former Olympic wrestler and senior adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has taken to Twitter to express his concern that Black Friday might be an attempt to associate Islam with negativity.
“What is this Black Friday?” he asked. “Why Friday?”
“Friday is a holy day of light and blessings.”
Yerlikaya suspected there was more to the U.S. post-Thanksgiving retail fest that meets the eye.
“What perception is being created on this special day?” he asked. “What operation is being carried out?”
The shopping festival held in the United States the day after Thanksgiving festival has now spread across the Atlantic to Europe. This year, some retailers in Turkey have joined in, leading to new questions about the true meaning of the event.
