EU should end Turkey membership bid - Bulgarian PM
Bulgaria’s Prime Minister has called for the European Union to be honest with Turkey and drop its bid for membership of the bloc, Turkish opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet said.
“Let us leave behind our two-facedness on the issue of Turkey’s EU membership,” Boyko Borisov told Bulgarian state television.
“The best thing is for us to sit down and make a special agreement between Turkey and the EU. A five or six-clause customs easing should also be added to the agreement.”
Borisov said he did not always see eye to eye with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan but that there was one issue where they worked well together.
“The flow of asylum-seekers to Bulgaria has been cut like a knife,” he said. “We get on very well with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on border security.”
