Turkish opposition member accused of Erdoğan insults released from custody

A Turkish opposition member accused of insulting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in social media posts from 2013 has been released from custody and placed under house arrest, news site Diken reported.

Dila Koyurga, a youth representative and district council member for Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) in the Turkey’s third largest city of Izmir, was 17 years old at the time the social media posts were made.

Erdoğan’s lawyer, Ahmet Özel, filed a criminal complaint with the Izmir chief prosecutor over the posts, which he claimed had insulted Erdoğan when he was Turkey’s prime minister.
