Cinema attendance plummets in Turkey in 2019 – HaberTürk
Ticket sales at cinemas has dropped drastically in 2019, with audience numbers falling by 70 percent and revenues by 64 percent compared to last year, Turkish news outlet HaberTürk reported.
The number of viewers fell by almost 11 million to 14 million in the first 33 weeks of the year, compared to the same time period last year, while revenues fell from 291 million liras to 196 million liras ($33.6 million), HaberTürk said.
A dispute between film production companies and movie theatre companies broke out early this year over discount ticket deals offered by the theatres.
Turkish film producers say the campaigns have hit their revenues, and have delayed the release of several anticipated films in protest.
