Ankara governor bans Communist meeting
The governor of Ankara has banned a talk by a Turkey Communist Party (TKP) Central Committee member on government corruption, party-linked news website SoL said.
Özgür Şen’s speech, which was due to take place on Thursday evening, was banned pre-emptively under public safety and hate speech legislation after being advertised on social media.
The event “could provoke a segment of society to hate and enmity against another segment of society”, the governor’s statement said.
The move comes in the wake of the governorate banning all LGBTI events in the province indefinitely under the same justification.
