Three Russians injured in Istanbul knife attack

Three Russians were wounded in a knife attack in Istanbul on Sunday evening, state-run TASS news agency reported on Monday.

The three Russians were in the Istanbul district of Besiktas when they were attacked by a knife-wielding man after they refused to give him money. One woman was stabbed seven times while a man travelling with her was stabbed as well. Another was wounded in their hand.

RIA Novosti, another Russian state-run agency, published the video from a nearby surveillance camera of the attack and identified the attacker as a garbage collector, citing a Besiktas security officer.

TASS’ own source told the outlet that the attacker is believed to be mentally ill and is in the custody of Istanbul police.

The Russian Consulate General in Istanbul announced that it was looking into the incident and that injured Russians are currently recovering at a local hospital.
