Turkey detains ISIS suspect linked to Sultanahmet, Suruç bombings
Police in Turkey’s’ southeastern province of Şanlıufra have arrested an suspected Islamic State (ISIS) member accused of involvement in numerous deadly bombings in the country, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as Azzo Halaf Sulaiman El Aggal, is accused of providing ISIS with explosives for the 2016 Sultanahmet attack in Istanbul and the 2015 Suruç bombing in Şanlıurfa, among others, Birgün newspaper cited the ministry as saying.
Thirteen people were killed and 14 others wounded in the Jan. 13, 2016 Sultanahmet attack, while a total of 33 people were killed and 104 wounded in the July 20, 2015 Suruç attack.
Both attacks were carried out by ISIS during a time when Turkey was rocked by a string bombings by the jihadist organisation.
The arrest of El Aggal follows the joint cooperation of the police of southeastern Şanlıurfa province and the regional department of Turkey's National IntelligenceAgency (MİT), it said.
