Trump name removed from Istanbul metro signs

The signs for the Trump Towers Shopping Mall in a metro station in Istanbul have been removed following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, the secularist Sözcü newspaper said.

The mall, which was opened by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself, has its own dedicated metro entrance, but with the word “Trump” now removed from it, shoppers may find it more difficult to locate.

Some Twitter users thought the move did not go far enough.

“We’re saying close İncirlik air base and withdraw from NATO,” Yalçın Çiftçi, a trade unionist from Çorum, tweeted, “The reaction they have is to remove a sign.”
