Turkish car production, exports fall
Turkey’s production of motor vehicles fell 3 percent in January compared with a year earlier, led by a drop in the production of cars.
Car production decreased 9 percent in the month to 85,368 units, according to data supplied by the Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD). Production of commercial vehicles rose an annual 13 percent, but was not sufficient to affect the overall decline, it said.
Turkey's government has raised some sales taxes on cars to increase revenue in the budget and set aside more cash for spending on the military.
Exports of vehicles dropped 9 percent, with car exports falling 4 percent to 73,408 units, the association said.
