Erdoğan foundation among consortium invited into Ankara schools

Ankara’s city assembly, which is dominated by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), has voted to fund a project by a consortium of religiously inspired educational foundations to give extra religious guidance to students at all middle and high schools in the province, opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet said.

The project, called “Civilisation-Founding Young Hearts”, is to be run by the Imam Preacher Schools Platform, which is comprised of a group of religious foundations including TÜRGEV, a foundation largely controlled by Turkish President Recep Tayyip

Erdoğan’s family and their close friends; ÖNDER, an association of imam preacher schools alumi; and the Ensar Foundation, a religious educational foundation that has been hit by prominent child abuse scandals.

The project’s aim is to “contribute to the raising of students studying at all middle schools and high schools within the borders of Ankara (province) as moral and virtuous people attached to their national and spiritual feelings and ensure that they learn their religious values from robust sources.”

Already as part of the project, hundreds of imam preacher students have been taken to project offices after morning prayers for “discussion” events on religious topics.
