Teacher arrested for attack on disabled student
A Turkish teacher arrested after being filmed on a mobile phone beating a student with disabilities has been released pending trial on charges of deliberate intentional injury, secularist newspaper Hürriyet said.
After the footage came to light on social media, the chief public prosecutor's office in the southwestern province of Burdur ordered the teacher’s arrest, but after a statement was taken, he was released pending trial.
“After the footage of a student, who is under care and protection at a rehabilitation centre in the Bucak district of our city, was beaten by his teacher in the special education class in which he is educated, the teacher was detained on charges of deliberate intentional injury,” Burdur Chief Public Prosecutor Mehmet Nadir Yağcı said in a written statement. “The investigation regarding the subject is being carried out studiously by the Burdur chief public prosecutor's office.”
