Turkey’s first lady to publish book of Ottoman cooking recipes
Turkey’s first lady Emine Erdoğan is writing a cookbook of Ottoman-era recipes expected to be published at the beginning of 2021 in Turkish and English, the Daily Sabah newspaper reported on Thursday.
Emine Erdoğan had flagged plans for the gastronomy book on Twitter on Sept. 18 after hosting a meeting with academics of culinary science and chefs.
The recipe book will be translated into other languages at a later date, Daily Sabah said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extensively promotes Ottoman, Islamist and nationalist ideas in his speeches and is seeking to widen Turkey’s influence in the Middle East.
“We are preparing a gastronomy book aimed at promoting the richness of Turkish cuisine,” Emine Erdogan said. “This work … will include our cultural codes with healthy, traditional and waste-free recipes.”
