Turkey to launch first oil exploration ship in Mediterranean
Turkey’s first oil exploration ship will be launched in the Mediterranean Sea in the coming months, economic news site Patronlar Dünyası quoted Energy Minister Berat Albayrak as saying.
The Deepsea Metro-2, operated by the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), will be Turkey’s first active drilling ship. The country carries out seismic works with its own petroleum and gas research ships, Albayrak said.
Deepsea Metro-2 is one of the most advanced exploration drilling ships, the website said. Built in South Korea by Hyundai, the vessel is 229-metres long and can drill 40,000 feet (12.2 km) deep.
