Turkey lost right to host Euro 2014 due to human rights record - UEFA Pres
Turkey has lost the right to host a European Championship due to "the lack of an action plan in the area of human rights", UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said on Sept. 27.
Germany will host the 2024 European Championship, as leaving Turkey behind in a vote by UEFA's Executive Committee.
“The procedure was transparent, the vote was democratic. Every democratic decision is the right decision,” UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said while announcing the decision.
T24, a Turkish news outlet, said one of the reasons that Turkey lost the bidding is the advertisement of the betting and alcohol are banned in the country.
Another reason is a low level of income in Turkey. Germans have more incomes comparing to Turkish people. Economic difficulties, concerns about Turkey in the areas of infrastructure, finance and human rights, lack of railways between northern and southern cities, limited accommodation opportunities are among the other disadvantages of Turkey to lose the race to host Euro 2024, T24 said.
