Ankara tax office bomber trained in Syria, official says

Thursday’s explosion at a tax office in the Turkish capital was caused by a bomb, the Ankara Governor’s office said in a statement on Friday, adding that the suspected bomber had been killed in a police operation to apprehend him.

Authorities detained eight people who they said had helped the alleged bomber, Ersen Ertogan, 27, born in the southeastern Turkish province of Mardin, AP reported.

The explosion damaged the tax office building in Ankara’s Çukurambar district and wounded three people.

The suspect was reportedly identified with the help of security cameras that showed him leaving a bag believed to contain an explosive device at the entrance to the tax office.

Officials said Ertogan entered Turkey illegally from Syria where he had received training among Kurdish militia groups.
