Three employees detained over firework factory explosion in northwest Turkey
Turkish authorities detained three supervisors in connection with a series of blasts at a fireworks factory in the Marmara province of Sakarya, state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Saturday.
A prosecutor had ordered the detention of the manager in charge and two foremen, who were all placed under investigation, over the Friday incident that killed four employees and injured another 114. Three people were reported missing.
Response teams scrambled to rescue blast survivors and put out the fire resulting from at least three blasts heard from many parts of Yukarıçalıca city in the Hendek district, some 50 kilometres away.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Friday that the fire was under control and had ordered members of his cabinet to the area to oversee rescue operations.
