Poetry will strengthen Turks against COVID-19, health minister says
Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, who leads the country’s fight against COVID-19, urged people in the country to read poetry to help battle the virus.
Koca made the comments to mark World Poetry Day on Sunday.
“Poetry strengthens the body against all kinds of viruses, let's not forget,” Koca said on Twitter on Monday.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey has spiked this month to more than 20,000 daily, the highest level since December, after the government eased restrictions against the pandemic on March 1.
The death toll has topped 30,000 since the outbreak a year ago and the total number of cases increased to more than 3 million, Health Ministry data showed at the weekend.
Deaths totalled 102 on Sunday, the biggest daily amount since early February.
