Turkey selects “The Wild Pear Tree” for Oscars

Nuri Bilge Ceylan's film “The Wild Pear Tree” has been selected as Turkey’s entry in the foreign-language category at this year’s Academy awards.

The film, which details a young writer struggles to finance the publication of a novel, has been described as "a slow, dense look at Turkey today". It is the first film Ceylan has directed to be submitted to the prestigious award ceremony.

Previously, the director achieved critical acclaim with films such as “Winter Sleep”, which won a Palme d’Or in 2014, “Three Monkeys” (2008) and “Distant” (2002).
