Istanbul district mayor pedalling through financial crisis

The district mayor of Zeytinburnu, İstanbul has been riding his bike to work along with other district employees as fuel prices surge amid an ongoing financial crisis.

Murat Aydın said pedalling his way to work for the past four months has saved him 19,173 liters in gas and 132,486 lira (around 21,500 dollars).

Aydın vowed to continue riding his bike to work as fuel prices, among others, have spiked in Turkey amid a currency crisis triggered by a diplomatic row between Ankara and Washington over Turkey’s ongoing detention of a U.S. pastor accused of membership in terrorist organisations.
