Beşiktaş Europe’s fastest growing football club
Beşiktaş JK’s value has grown more than any other European football club in the past year, making it the most valuable team in Turkey and the 23rd in Europe, according to the KPMG Football Benchmark analytics platform.
KPMG examined the growth experienced by the top 32 football clubs in Europe throughout the year prior to Jan. 1 2018, a figure averaging out at nine percent.
The Istanbul-based football club’s value jumped from 219 million to 333 million euros since last year, a success that KPMG attributes to the club “capitalising on the first full season played in the brand new Vodafone Arena and advancing to the Europa League quarter finals in the 2016/17 season.”
Beşiktaş also made it to the last 16 in the Champion’s League last season before being knocked out by Bayern Munich in an 8-1 aggregate loss. The club came in fourth place in the Turkish Super League after winning the competition the previous year.
However, according to KPMG’s calculations, in terms of value Beşiktaş beat its closest rivals Galatasaray FC and Fenerbahçe FC, worth 330 million euros and 319 million euros respectively.
The club’s impressive 52 percent rise in value over a year easily surpassed Leicester City, the surprise victors of the 2016 English Premier League, which was the next highest growing club during the same time period with growth of 35 percent. Lyon had the third highest growth at 29 percent.
The most valuable clubs in Europe last year were Manchester United at 3.26 billion euros, followed by Real Madrid and Barcelona at 2.92 and 2.78 billion respectively.
