Fenerbahçe ultras leader shot dead after match
One of the leading names in Fenerbahçe’s biggest ultras group has been shot dead in mysterious circumstances, pro-government news channel AHaber reported on Monday.
Mehmet Altunkaynak – known as “Dadaş Mehmet” on the terraces, a reference to his origins in Turkey’s northeast – was leaving a teahouse on Sunday night where he had been watching the Atiker Konyaspor–Fenerbahçe match when an assailant pulled up in a vehicle, the channel said.
A total of 17 shots were fired at the prominent figure in the Genç Fenerbahçeliler (Young Fenerbahçe Fans), with nine of the bullets hitting their target, it added.
As of yet, neither the identity of the assailant, nor his or her motive has come to light, the channel said.
