AKP politician funded German-Turkish gang - German TV report
A member of parliament for Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) provided funds for a German-Turkish gang centred around a boxing club, Deutsche Welle said.
The German public international broadcaster cited a report by German channel ZDF, based on intelligence from German security services, that said parliamentarian Metin Külünk had funded the Osmanen Germania (Ottoman Germany) group, which had used the money to buy firearms.
Külünk, the report said, had also played a role last year in organising protests against the German Federal Parliament’s decision to recognise the Armenian genocide.
It also said that in 2016, the leader of the group, Mehmet Bağcı, had come to Ankara and had his group’s activities publicly endorsed by presidential advisor İlnur Çevik.
The group, Deutsche Welle said, was raided by German police last year over narcotics, arms trafficking, money laundering, blackmail and forgery charges.
