Turkish asylum applications to Germany increase by 25 percent in 2018

The number of asylum application by Turkish nationals in Germany increased to 10,655 in 2018 from 8,483 in 2017, Deutsche Welle Turkish reported on Wednesday.

Turks ranked sixth among other nationals who applied for asylum in Germany in 2018.

Following a failed coup attempt in 2016, many Turks chose to leave Turkey in order to avoid government’s crackdown on dissidents. Germany is among the top countries Turks fled to, particularly for members of the Gülen movement, who Turkey accuses of orchestrating a failed coup attempt.
