"Greece should not test our patience" - Turkish opposition party

Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) will declare the Turkish names of 156 islands, islets and reefs in the Aegean Sea and claim them as Turkish territory, state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

Last week, CHP’s leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said in a speech at the parliament that Greece had "occupied" 18 islands, which made the Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos "uncomfortable", AA said.

CHP’s deputy leader for foreign affairs, Öztürk Yılmaz, was quoted by AA as saying, “Kammenos says ‘come and get it’ in response to Kılıçdaroğlu, but Greece should not test our patience.”

Yılmaz said that Greek prime ministers and chiefs of the general staff paid visits to these occupied islands and built churches there to claim that there were permanent settlements on the islands.

“Turkey is much more than its government” Yılmaz said, and any Greek minister who provokes Turkey, will be “hit like a ton of bricks.”
