The U.S. ambassador to Greece said his country was working towards the release of two Greek soldiers detained on Turkish soil this month, Greek newspaper Kathimerini said.
Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt said on Tuesday his country was “fully engaged” in securing the return of the pair, who crossed the border apparently by accident.
Pyatt said the United States would do its best to main communication and resolve tensions between the two NATO allies.
He also emphasised the “importance of Greece's leadership in bringing countries from across Europe and wider region” together for multinational air exercises
