16 foreign students detained during police raids against Gülenists

16 foreign students have been detained in Turkey during police raids against Gülenists in the southern city of Mersin, TRT Haber said on Saturday.

The Turkish government accuses the Gülen movement, a religious group led by Fethullah Gülen, of orchestrating the coup attempt in July 2016. In the coup attempt’s aftermath, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) began far-reaching purges under a state of emergency that have affected hundreds of thousands of citizens associated with Gülen.

In Mersin, the police identified a Gülenist, who allegedly has been in charge of foreign students affiliated to the movement and raided 10 houses. 10 Somali, 3 Djibouti, 2 Guinea, and 1 Syrian nationals were detained by the police.
