Amazon donates to Gülen-linked association - report

E-commerce giant Amazon has been transferring donations to a U.S.-based association linked to Gülen movement, a religious group Turkey accuses of orchestrating a coup attempt in 2016, the Sabah newspaper reported on Thursday.

Amazon has included The Alliance for Shared Values (AfSV), a group openly tied to the Gülen movement, to the list of organisations its users can donate to, and the association called on supporters to shop from Amazon.

“Did you know that you can support us through AmazonSmile?” it said on Twitter, referring to Amazon’s donation programme. “Anytime you make an eligible purchase, Amazon donates to AfSV!”

The Gülen group, led by Fethullah Gülen who lives in the United States, denies any links to the coup attempt during which 248 people were killed.

Turkey says the secretive Islamist group had infiltrated its members into all arms of the state in an attempt to take over the country. The Turkish government demands Gülen’s extradition from the United States to face trial for his alleged role in the failed putsch and recognises his group as a terrorist organisation.
