Gülen movement has infiltrated U.S. Congress – Turkish foreign minister

The Fethullah Gülen movement has infiltrated all major American political institutions, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said at the opening of a cultural centre.

“FETÖ has infiltrated into American missions in Turkey,” Çavuşoğlu said, according to Star newspaper. “It has infiltrated the American judiciary and Congress and all institutions everywhere (there), whether legally or illegally.”

The movement, a group the Turkish government calls the Fethullahist Terror Organisation (FETÖ) and accuses of masterminding the July 2016 failed military coup attempt in Turkey, is comprised of followers of preacher Fethullah Gülen, who lives in exile in Pennsylvania.

Çavuşoğlu said that he had warned the United States of the threat.

“We know how FETÖ works in America today. We know how FETÖ has infiltrated American institutions and the judiciary and we tell the Americans that to their faces,” he said.

Global awareness of the group’s nefarious activities, Çavuşoğlu said, was increasing.

“The world sees this. That is why they close their schools,” he said. “Why do they open schools? We see how they infiltrate the states and institutions of those countries with children from those schools and we explain it to them.”
