Turkey arrests 101 soldiers over Gülen links

Turkish prosecutors in the western city of İzmir on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for 133 soldiers over links to the Gülen movement, a religious group that Turkey accuses of masterminding the 2016 coup attempt, Anadolu news agency reported.

Turkish forces launched anti-Gülenist raids in 45 provinces in Turkey and 101 suspects have been arrested, Anadolu said. The soldiers for whom warrants have been issued include some on active duty.

Over 77,000 people have been imprisoned over links to the Gülen movement and some 150,000 public employees have been suspended or sacked as part of the Turkish government’s global crackdown on the group.

Turkish courts have sentenced 1,949 Turkish citizens to life in prison in 248 court cases linked to the failed coup, according to Anadolu.
