1 dead in armed attack on Turkish chamber of commerce

A gunman attacked the official car of the Chamber of Trade and Industry in the southern Turkish city of Osmaniye, killing its deputy president and wounding its president, secularist newspaper Sözcü said.

Following the attack, chamber deputy president Hasan Ersoy, who is the elder brother of local Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy Ruhi Ersoy, was taken to hospital and died there.

Osmaniye Governor Ömer Faruk Coşkun said there had been several suspects arrested, but the investigation continued.

“The attacker has been caught,” he said. “Our colleagues are working on his connections and other matters.”

“As far as we can see, the reason behind this event appears to be a job request issue, but there may be something else behind it. We are researching that too.”
