Kurds won’t vote for Turkish nationalist candidate – HDP co-chair
One of the co-chairs of Turkey’s pro-Kurdish opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has said that no Kurds will vote for the nationalist candidate whose party’s veto prevented the HDP from joining the main opposition alliance in upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, left-wing news site Artı Gerçek said.
“I wish with an open heart to express today that no Kurd will vote for Ms. (Meral) Akşener, most of all myself,” Pervin Buldan said.
Akşener’s Good Party had vetoed the HDP joining the Nation Alliance of parties in opposition to the government coalition, Buldan said, and in return, no Kurds would support her, even if she was left head-to-head with Erdoğan in the second round of the presidential election.
“The claim that Kurds will not vote for me in the second round of the presidential election is a complete urban legend,” Akşener said, emphasising that she had established a close relationship with Kurdish voters.
