First Turkish-made helicopter makes maiden flight
Turkey’s first home-made helicopter, the T625, performed its maiden flight on Tuesday, Defense News website reported.
The T625, which is a dual purpose (civilian and military) utility platform suitable for search and rescue, ambulance, VIP and transport, hovered for a few minutes a little bit above ground level, the site reported.
The platform has strong resemblance to the AW139 produced by the Italian-British AgustaWestland, according to industry sources; however, Turkey maintains the helicopter has been designed locally.
TAI is also the producer of Turkey’s helicopter gunship T129 ATAK under license from AgustaWestland.
TAI officials plan the serial production of the helicopter in the early 2020s, Defense News said, however, aerospace officials note certification of the helicopter itself may take five years.
