Turkey increases military deployments in Syria's Idlib - SOHR
Turkey sent military reinforcements to Syria’s last rebel-held province of Idlib on Sunday, Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.
A column consisting of more than 30 armoured vehicles carrying logistical and military equipment passed via the Kafr Losin border crossing, SOHR said.
The crossing is located in Turkey’s southernmost Hatay province.
The Syrian government’s offensive to recapture Idlib was launched in April 2019. Turkey has deployed military force and backed opposition forces to try to halt the Syrian army's advance, which has displaced around 1 million people.
Turkey and Russia brokered a ceasefire agreement on March 5 to end the fighting in the province between Turkish-backed forces and the Syrian military, which is backed by Russia.
More than 6,370 Turkish trucks and military vehicles and hardware, as well as hundreds of soldiers, have been sent to Idlib after the ceasefire came into effect, it said.
