“Save the youth from internet poison,” Erdoğan says
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the internet was a poisonous addiction from which parents and teachers should save young people.
In his address at the awards ceremony of The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), Erdoğan was quoted by Turkish news website Duvar as saying:
In the past there were internet cafés. Now internet access is set up in the houses, so the poison is inside the home.
Our academics should warn parents of this danger. We need to get rid of this very serious addiction, and save our youth from being addicts. Technology leading our youth to addiction is the biggest threat we face right now.
Watch a two-year-old playing with a phone. When our emotions are taken hostage by the phone we have, this is a threat to us. We need to stand against it.
