Consulate staff begin testifying in missing Saudi journo case

Staff members from the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul began testifying at the prosecutor's office on Friday as part of an investigation into the disappearance of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

A total of 15 staff members will be testifying as witnesses in the case of Khashoggi, who vanished after entering the consulate  building in İstanbul on Oct. 2 is feared to have have been killed.

The witnesses who have been summoned by a court in İstanbul’s Çağayan district, include the consul-general’s driver, a technical supervisor, switchboard operator, as well as the head accountant, the agency said.

The case of the 60-year-old Washington Post contributor who is a U.S. resident has triggered widespread outrage while putting United States-Saudi relations in the spotlight.
