News crew working for Turkish agency attacked with excrement in Jerusalem
Two Palestinian journalists working for Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency were targeted by a group of Israelis in an ultra-Orthodox neighbourhood in Jerusalem on Wednesday.
A group of people attacked the journalists’ car while Mustafa Kharouf and Fayez Abu Rmeileh were working on a report in the Mea She’arim neighbourhood, according to news website Palestine Chronicle.
According to Anadolu, the agency’s Middle East Desk Editor Turgut Alp Boyraz was also with the Palestinian crew.
The attackers threw bags of excrement inside the car after breaking its windows, according to a police report the Jerusalem Post cited.
The Anadolu crew was conducting street interviews at the time of the attack. The group also threw rocks at the journalists, Anadolu said, as the police arrived to ensure their safety.
Tensions had been high in the neighbourhood over protests against COVID-19 restrictions and a recent incident where a man died during protests on Sunday, after a minibus drove onto demonstrators, Times of Israel reported.
