TRT Arabic journalist killed in Syria's Al-Bab

A Syrian journalist with Turkey’s state-run TRT was fatally shot in Syria’s Turkish-controlled northern city of Al-Bab, Birgün newspaper reported on Sunday.

Hussein Khattab, a TRT Arabic correspondent, died after being shot by two unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle near the gate of al-Bab’s graveyard during the early morning hours, according to military affairs website South Front.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, Birgün said.

Al-Bab has been under the control of pro-Turkish militias since Dec. 2016 as part of the Turkish buffer zone established following a military operation into the region targeting Kurdish forces, which Ankara sees as an existential threat.
