Independent channel KRT to close
An independent Turkish television channel devoted to culture, but which became popular among those interested in politics for its unique willingness to host guests from all across the political spectrum, is to close next month.
Lawyer Fidel Okan announced the news on Twitter:
“I have just had a long conversation with the owner of @KRTKulturTV, Didem. They have taken the decision that KRT will cease broadcasting next month! ‘Taking this decision was very difficult: we would either surrender or close the channel. We had to do it, we are very sorry’, she said,” he wrote.
In January this year, pro-government commentator Cem Küçük had demanded the closure of the channel, calling it a channel belonging to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a group with which Turkey is fighting a conflict in the southeast.
