Muslim countries also conspiring against Turkish lira – Turkish minister

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Wednesday that majority Muslim countries were among those conspiring to sink the Turkish lira, independent news site T24 reported.

Çavuşoğlu said the government would reveal which Muslim countries were behind the exchange rate volatility “when the time comes”.

“Look how credit rating agencies are dropping their ratings. There are countries involved in this business, there are financial institutions involved in it, and there is the interest lobby,” he said.

In a separate announcement, Çavuşoğlu iterated a claim he had made on Tuesday that the German government had invited President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to visit Chancellor Angela Merkel after the election.

German government sources have denied that such an invite had been extended.

Çavuşoğlu said in his response that the invite had been made by the German government, but before Erdoğan decided to call snap elections, which are to be held on June 24.
