Turkey to try hand at comedy in new Netflix series
Turkey, known throughout the Middle East and Balkans for its quality dramas, is preparing to try its luck at comedy with a series to be featured on Netflix, news site Duvar reported.
Production of a two-season comedy series titled “50 square metres,’’ (50 Metrekare) starring actor Engin Öztürk and actress Aybüke Pusat, is set to start in the upcoming days, the site said.
The director of the series is Selçuk Aydemir, a screenwriter who has signed his name to a number of domestic box office comedy hits.
Netflix entered the domestic Turkish market with two productions in 2019, including the Protector (Muhafız), which pulled in more than 10 million viewers during its first month.
The online streaming service will be producing three new shows in Turkey this year.
