Two Armenian priests gunned down in northern Syria

Two Armenian priests, Abraham Petoyan and Hovsep Petoyan, were killed in a shooting that took place in the northeast Syrian border town of Qamishli, ArmenPress reported on Monday.

The father and son were targeted in their vehicle as they were travelling to Deir ez-Zor to inspect the condition of the Catholic church there, it said.

A deacon was wounded in the attack as a passenger in the pastors’ vehicle.

The Islamic State (ISIS) has assumed responsibility for the deadly attack, pro-Kurdish Mezopotamya Agency said.
The attack followed three explosions on Monday in the Qamishli city centre, where at least three civilians lost their lives and five others were wounded. According to a journalist in the region, two car bombs targeted a hospital, and a third targeted a hotel.
